At 9.19am Valentia Coast Guard requested Valentia RNLI to launch their all-weather lifeboat to assist a motor cruiser which was taking on water while out motoring. Weather conditions at the time were described as cloudy, with a south westerly wind, force 5 with a 2 metre swell.
Arriving on scene at 10am, the lifeboat crew were informed that the sailors had everything under control and the motor cruiser had stopped taking on water. The lifeboat crew stood by and escorted the motor cruiser to Dingle Marine.
Speaking following the call out, Valentia RNLI Coxswain Richard Quigley said: ‘The sailors did the right thing calling for assistance early’. He added everyone sailing or motoring should ensure they always have a means for calling and signalling for help and to always wear a lifejacket.
