Poor weather conditions are now hampering the search for five missing fishermen off the Cork Coast. A distress call from the fishing trawler 'The Bonhomme' was received by the Coastguard shortly before 6am.
The trawler was making its way to Glandore after a fishing trip in a force 6 to 7 south-easterly wind, which made conditions very difficult. The boat may have had engine failure and was blown onto a rocky island, according to some local people.
One man was rescued from the water and is said to be in a comfortable condition at Cork University Hospital.
RNLI lifeboats from Courtmacsherry and Baltimore, Irish Coastguard helicopters from Waterford and Shannon and Coastguard units from Glandore, Castlefreake and Toe Head continue to search. A team of navy divers are expected to join the search shortly.
The search is concentrated at the mouth of the estuary between two large rocks known locally as the Adam and Eve rocks.
Low tide is around 3.30pm, which it is hoped will help the search.
