Arklow Lifeboat was launched at approximately 12.00 on 13/12/17 to assist a sailing vessel which had requested assistance form the Irish Coastguard.
Our crew was tasked to the scene following a call for help from the vessel which had suffered machinery failure. The vessel and its crew of four were travelling from Plymouth to Bangor in Northern Ireland.
Arklow Lifeboat proceeded to the scene and upon arrival Arklow RNLI’s volunteers put a crew member aboard to assist the crew of the vessel in establishing a towline, once secured the vessel was towed safely into Arklow.
Arklow RNLI’s crew for this shout was Ned Dillon, Michael Fitzgerald, Roger Tyrrell, Andrew Loughlin, Trevor Conroy & Jimmy Myler.
Following the incident, Mark Corcoran Arklow RNLI Volunteer Press Officer said, “Big Thanks to our voluntees for going out on this very cold day, A quick reminder to all of our Christmas opening Hours- Like Always 24/7/365 .”
