RNLI and CRBI lifeboats launch to a fishing boat which caught fire and had to be abandoned south of Derrynane

Lifeboats from Castletownbere RNLI, Derrynane Inshore Rescue Boat and Ballinskelligs lnshore Rescue were tasked by Valentia Coastguard today at 12.26pm (Monday 7 May) to go to the assistance of a Castletownbere fishing boat which caught fire and started taking water.

The two persons on board the burning vessel took to their liferaft while two local boats stood by to offer assistance. Shannon based Coast Guard Helicopter Rescue 115 was tasked to the scene.


The two rescued fisherman, who were uninjured were picked up by the Ballinskelligs lnshore Rescue boat were then transferred to the Castletownbere RNLI Lifeboat for transport to Castletownbere.
