Portaferry RNLI came to the assistance of a yacht that got into difficulty on Saturday morning (14 July).
The lifeboat was called out shortly after 10am to a yacht that had lost engine power and had no steerage, just north of Killard Point inside the entrance of Strangford Lough.
The lifeboat with four on board arrived and established a tow and brought the vessel which had two people on board back to the marina in Portaferry. Weather conditions were calm at the time.
Portaferry Lifeboat Operations Manager Brian Bailie said the skipper of the yacht did everything right and dropped the anchor when the engine lost power,
‘The skipper had the necessary equipment and followed the guidelines of good seamanship and called for help. We were happy to assist and bring them back to safety’.
