The Courtmacsherry Trent class lifeboat under Coxswain Ken Cashman plus a crew of seven launched immediately and proceeded at full speed to the distress area. Arriving at 7.40pm, the lifeboat carried out a thorough search of the coastline.

The Seven Heads Coast Guard unit completed a shore detailed search and the Union Hall RNLI Atlantic 75 lifeboat assisted in the search as well.

After a thorough search of the entire area, nothing was found and the lifeboats returned to base. Conditions at sea tonight were good with little wind.

Speaking following the call out, Vincent O'Donovan, Courtmacsherry RNLI Volunteer Lifeboat Press Officer said: 'Sincere thanks to the members of the public who alerted the authorities tonight and resulted in the detailed search as this may have been a serious incident and it is always best to report any concerns as quick as possible.'

The crew of the Courtmacsherry lifeboat tonight were Coxswain Ken Cashman, mechanic Pat Lawton and crew members Denis Murphy, Peter Noonan, Dara Gannon, Jim O Donnell, Dean Hennessey and Enda Boyle.
