Achill Island lifeboat station was established in August 1996. The stations all-weather lifeboat is kept at moorings in Achill Sound. Portacabins were used as temporary crew accomodation. A new station house opened in 2004 located at the southern end of Achill Sound. The new building provides housing for the stations boarding boat along with modern crew facilities.
