Trials of a D class lifeboat were held for three months during 1998. A station was permanently established in March 1999 when an Atlantic 21 class lifeboat was placed on station. A new inshore lifeboat station was built during 2001 providing modern crew facilities and undercover storage for the Atlantic 75 class lifeboat.
