Wicklow RNLI assist injured man during multi-agency operation
Wicklow RNLI inshore lifeboat launched on Tuesday afternoon (16 May) following a Coast Guard launch request to a casualty, who had fallen from the quayside onto the Strand beach while cycling at Wicklow harbour. The volunteer inshore lifeboat crew were on scene within minutes and were met by ambulance personnel on the beach. The paramedics were assessing the casualty and asked the lifeboat crew to prepare a stretcher to transport the person by boat to the nearby slip, as the rocky terrain on the strand would prevent them getting the casualty safely up onto the road. The tide was also coming in at the time. With the arrival of a Coast Guard cliff rescue unit, it was decided to use their specialist climbing equipment to winch the casualty off the beach by stretcher. Many of the lifeboat crew had also assembled at the strand and began to assist with the stretcher extraction. The casualty was lifted by stretcher from the beach up onto the road and brought to hospital by a waiting ambulance. This was the first call out for the new inshore lifeboat Dennis-Audrey.
