Courtmacsherry RNLI in rescue of single handed sailor off Old Head of Kinsale
The Courtmacsherry RNLI all-weather lifeboat was called out at 7.10 pm on Wednesday evening (17 June 2015) to answer a distress call from a Racing Yacht in difficulty off the West Cork Coast. The single handed female sailor had reported in a brief message that she was in trouble. The Courtmacsherry Lifeboat with a crew of seven were away immediately and proceeded to carry out a search of the area along with the Baltimore RNLI Lifeboat and the Coast Guard Helicopter Rescue 117. The casualty was located in difficulty 10 miles south of the Old Head of Kinsale and the Courtmacsherry lifeboat took the Yacht in tow. The single-handed sailor was taking part in a race from Falmouth, England to Baltimore when she propped and lost her steering and power. Conditions at sea today were windy force 5/6.
