The RNLI established a station a Ballyglass in 1989. The station was established in October for a twelve month evaluation period. The station was made permanent following the success of the trial. In 1994 a new station house was built close to the lifeboat's moorings. In 2002 a D class and Land Rover were sent to the station and operated from Bellmullet where they could be launched from a number of different sights.
