HM Coastguard is responsible for coordinating maritime search and rescue (SAR) operations around Northern Ireland's coastline and inland waters. Operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, HM Coastguard works to prevent loss of life at sea, assist those in distress, and coordinate responses to maritime and coastal emergencies.

 

Northern Ireland's coastline extends for approximately 650 kilometres (400 miles), encompassing busy commercial shipping routes, fishing grounds, recreational boating areas, world-renowned tourist destinations, and challenging coastal environments. HM Coastguard plays a vital role in ensuring safety across these diverse maritime settings.
