On Friday morning (27 June), the volunteer crew at Crosshaven RNLI were requested to launch by the Irish Coast Guard to search for a vessel which was reported to be adrift off the Whitegate Oil Refinery.

Visibility was poor with a force 4 to 5 wind entering the harbour with an ebb tide making for difficult seas.
The area around the Oil refinery was searched to no avail and a shore line search commenced toward Roches Point. Eventually the vessel was located tucked into the pier below Fort Carlisle.
Two crew went ashore to check for occupancy of the vessel and found it secured. The crew then set up a bridle from the stern and towed the vessel into deep water where it could be safely moored alongside the lifeboat before being brought into Crosshaven.
Helm, Aidan O'Connor commented "With the poor visibility and the vessel moving freely within the harbour, this was a danger to navigation and we also had to make sure no persons were missing off the vessel."
