Baltimore RNLI has paid tribute to long-serving lifeboat mechanic Cathal Cottrell, who is retiring after dedicating 38 years of service to the lifesaving charity.

The RNLI lifeboat station at Valentia Island is marking the retirement of long-serving mechanic Leo Houlihan, who is stepping down after 38 years with the RNLI, including 34 years as station mechanic on the Kerry-based lifeboat.

Volunteers at Newcastle RNLI have today (11 January) bid farewell to the last operational Mersey class lifeboat in the charity’s fleet.

Newcastle RNLI will bid farewell to their all-weather lifeboat, the last operational Mersey class lifeboat in the charity’s fleet, at 12.20pm on Sunday, 11 January. The time coincides with the number on the side of the Leonard Kent.

Niall McGrotty recently stepped down as lifeboat operations manager after 44 years of volunteering for Skerries RNLI.

Ballyglass RNLI Coxswain James Mangan is hanging up his yellow wellies after 36 years of service.
