Crosshaven RNLI tasked to the aid on an injured crewman on a racing yacht

The volunteer crew at Crosshaven lifeboat station were tasked at 12.30pm today (Thursday 26 June) by the Coast Guard to attend a 28' racing yacht with an injured crewman aboard.

The crew headed into force 5 seas to rendezvous with the yacht who was making way to Crosshaven. The lifeboat met the yacht between Roberts Head and Ringabella and transferred crewman Kline Pennefather to the yacht.


Kline assessed the casualty who had a suspected lower leg fracture, gave casualty care and made the decision to keep the casualty on the yacht where he was the most comfortable.


At Crosshaven, The ambulance crew and lifeboat personnel extracted the casualty from the yacht before he was transferred to hospital.


The lifeboat crew on the 'shout' were Ian Venner, Shane McAuliffe and Kline Pennefather. The shore crew were Jennifer Grey, Michael Livingstone, Hugh Mockler, Peter O'Halloran, Warren Forbes and Aidan O'Connor. Launch Authority was Darryl Hughes. This was Shane McAuliffe first 'shout' since being passed out as crew.


The lifeboat was declared ready for service once more at 2.15pm
