RNLI lifeguards in Northern Ireland bring their seasonal daily cover to a close however the team will continue a weekend patrol on selected beaches on the Causeway Coast until 28 September

Sunday (31 August) marked the conclusion of the summer daily patrols for RNLI lifeguards along the Causeway Coast and in county Down. However, during the month of September, RNLI lifeguards will continue their patrols on the weekends on Benone, Portstewart, Portrush West Strand, Portrush East Strand and Whiterocks from 10am – 6pm.
Throughout the summer of 2025, Lifeguards have been working hard putting preventative measures in place, advising water safety and attending various incidents. Lifeguards have dealt with casualty care, first aids, missing children and rescues from the sea.
RNLI Lifeguard Supervisor, Michael Jess said: ‘As the season finishes for RNLI lifeguards on the Causeway Coast and County Down, we’re asking people to continue to take care and be aware of the dangers. Be mindful that the water will be colder and the sea can be dangerously unpredictable.
‘Before you head out, always check weather and tide times, let someone know when you are due back, and carry a means of communication. If you see someone in trouble, please call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard.’
