Ballinskelligs Inshore Rescue Unveils New State-of-the-Art Launch System

Ballinskelligs Inshore Rescue (BIR) has taken another significant step forward in its lifesaving capabilities with the commissioning of a brand-new launch system, purpose-built for its 7-metre Excalibre RIB.
Designed specifically to meet the demanding conditions of Ireland's Atlantic coastline, the new system features a self-propelled, hydraulically operated boat cradle that dramatically improves the speed and efficiency of launching the rescue vessel. By eliminating many of the challenges associated with traditional launch methods, the new system significantly reduces launch times, ensuring volunteers can respond even more quickly when every second counts.
Engineered to withstand the harsh saltwater environment of the Atlantic Ocean, the launch system has been built using materials and components selected for their durability and resistance to corrosion. This robust design not only enhances operational reliability but also greatly reduces ongoing maintenance requirements, allowing volunteers to focus on what matters most, saving lives.
The investment represents another milestone for Ballinskelligs Inshore Rescue, a voluntary organisation that has been serving the local community since its establishment in 2006. BIR was founded by local residents following a heartbreaking drowning incident in Ballinskelligs Bay. The tragedy highlighted the urgent need for a dedicated and rapid-response rescue service in the area, inspiring the creation of an organisation committed to protecting those who use the waters around Ballinskelligs and St. Finan's Bay.
