Busy Afternoon for Youghal RNLI as Crew Respond to Two Calls

Youghal RNLI volunteers responded to two separate callouts on Saturday, 22 August, with the lifeboat crew assisting a speedboat with engine trouble and standing by as a second vessel got underway safely.
The first pager alert was received at 12.33pm following reports of a 3.5-metre rigid inflatable boat (RIB) that had broken down at the mouth of Youghal Harbour.
However, the callout was cancelled shortly afterwards when the vessel managed to restart its engine and make its way safely to shore.
Later that afternoon, the volunteer crew was called to assist five people aboard a six-metre speedboat experiencing engine difficulties approximately one mile north of Youghal Bridge.
The lifeboat launched at 5.30pm and arrived on scene just five minutes later. The crew established that all five people on board were well and were wearing lifejackets.
After assessing the situation, the lifeboat crew determined that the safest course of action was to tow the vessel to safety. The speedboat was subsequently towed into nearby Youghal Harbour.
The vessel was safely secured at 6.25pm, with the lifeboat crew returning to station at 6.35pm.
The volunteer crew on the callout were helm Jason Ansbro and crew members Liam Keogh, Ben Terry and Jason Innes.
The two incidents once again highlight the importance of carrying appropriate safety equipment, keeping a means of communication on board and ensuring that all those at sea wear their lifejackets.
