Crosshaven RNLI crew assists stricken crabber

Crosshaven RNLI was called out on Sunday afternoon, (23 August), to assist a Cornish crabber-type vessel experiencing mechanical difficulties off Foxes Cover.
Valentia Coast Guard paged the lifeboat crew at 2.36pm after the vessel, with two people on board, developed mechanical problems and deployed its anchor as a precaution.
The Crosshaven RNLI crew of Aidan O’Connor, David Venner, Griff Kelleher and Warren Forbes made their way to Foxes Cover, where they located the casualty vessel.
The lifeboat crew established a tow and safely brought the vessel to Crosshaven Boatyard, where it was berthed without further incident.
The operation was supported ashore by Sandra Farrell, Alex Barry, Hugh Mockler and Darren O’Keeffe, with Hugh Tully acting as Launch Authority.
Crosshaven RNLI would remind all boat users that if you find yourself in difficulty at sea, call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coast Guard, or use VHF Channel 16 to raise the Coast Guard. Providing your location, the nature of the emergency and the number of people on board will help the emergency services respond as quickly as possible.
