Enniskillen RNLI assist three people and a dog on Lower Lough Erne

At 9:37am on Sunday (10 August), Enniskillen RNLI’s inshore lifeboat, the John and Lewis, was launched at the request of Belfast Coastguard, to assess a 38foot cruiser with four people and a dog onboard, which had run aground in the vicinity of Camagh Bay.

Winds were south easterly, Force 2 with light winds.

The volunteer lifeboat crew located and came alongside the casualty vessel and assessed the those on board who were safe and well. After checking the vessel, it was found that the casualty vessel had run aground. To ensure safe passage, the helm deemed the safest option to take was assist the vessel to deeper water with the assistance of two RNLI crew members onboard. The vessel was able to then continue its onward journey, and the RNLI crew returned to station.

Speaking following the call out, Stephen Ingram, Enniskillen RNLI Helm, advised all boat users: ‘‘During the busy summer season when more people are making the most of our waterways we would ask all water users to carry out regular maintenance to their vessels and have a means of calling for assistance if you find yourself in trouble. If you see someone or something in trouble on the water or are in difficulties yourself the number to dial is: 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard.’’
