Enniskillen RNLI assist two people on cruiser near Inish Davar

At 10.57am on Saturday (5 July), Enniskillen RNLI’s inshore lifeboat, John and Jean Lewis, was launched at the request of Belfast Coastguard, to assess the situation where a 39ft cruiser with two adults onboard, had broken down.

Winds were westerly, Force 2. It was cloudy, however and visibility was good.

The volunteer crew located the casualty vessel, just off Inish Davar Island. The vessel had experienced a mechanical fault. The boat was at anchor initially but then under tow from a passing vessel. The lifeboat crew then assessed the casualty vessel for any damage and water ingress and found all to be in a safe condition. Those onboard were well. As the boat could not make any safe onward profess, a decision was made to tow the vessel to the Manor House Marina.

Speaking following the call out, Enniskillen RNLI Helm Stephen Ingram, advised all boat users: ‘'With people making the most of the good weather this summer we would advise all boat users before setting out on your journey to please plan your route ahead making sure to check the navigational marks on the water. Have a means of calling for assistance if you find yourself in trouble and have lifejackets for all onboard. If you see someone or something in trouble on the water or are in difficulties yourself the number to dial is: 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard.'
