Tara Byrne, Head of Vehicle Operations at Enterprise Mobility™, visited Howth RNLI Lifeboat Station in glorious sunshine yesterday to present the donation. The cheque was accepted on behalf of the RNLI by volunteer coxswain Ian Martin.

The funding will support training for seven volunteer crew members at the station, helping to ensure they are equipped with the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to carry out lifesaving rescues at sea.

Speaking about the donation, volunteer coxswain Ian Martin said:

“We are incredibly grateful to Enterprise Mobility™ for this generous donation. Training is at the heart of everything we do and is essential to ensuring our volunteer crews can respond safely and effectively when people get into difficulty at sea. This support will help us continue to train our volunteers to the highest standards, ultimately helping to save lives while ensuring our crews return home safely after every callout.”

The journey to becoming a fully qualified RNLI crew member requires significant dedication and commitment. Volunteers begin by taking part in regular training exercises and real-life rescues, building valuable experience and confidence on the water.

As their experience grows, crew members may undertake more specialised roles, including navigator or mechanic, developing the advanced technical skills required for command positions. With continued commitment and training, volunteers can progress into leadership development programmes that prepare them to take responsibility for the lifeboat and crew.

The final stage of the process involves a rigorous assessment, testing candidates on a wide range of competencies including boat handling, navigation, communication and decision-making under pressure.

The donation from Enterprise Mobility™ will play an important role in supporting this training pathway, helping Howth RNLI continue to develop highly skilled volunteers who are ready to answer the call for help whenever needed.

Howth RNLI extends its sincere thanks to Tara Byrne and Enterprise Mobility™ for their valued support of the station and its volunteer lifesavers.
