The volunteer crew were requested to launch at 5:54 pm (Sunday 12 October), following a report from Belfast Coastguard that a speedboat with five people on board had broken down near Battery Harbour.

LNR lifeboats launched and and quickly proceeded to the location of the broken down vessel.

Once on scene, contact was made with the casualty vessel to ensure the wellness and safety of those on board. Weather conditions on Lough Neagh were calm, the light was fading fast and the evening turned bitterly cold fast.

A tow line was established, and the casualty vessel was safely towed back to Kinnego Marina, where LNR crewmembers helped to recover the vessel and ensured everyone was safely ashore.

Speaking after the call out, a spokesperson for Lough Neagh Rescue said:

'Our volunteers give up their free time, often on evenings like this, to protect our community on Lough Neagh. As a charity, we rely entirely on public support to keep our lifeboats callout-ready —

covering things like fuel, maintenance, PPE and essential training'.
