Portrush All weather Lifeboat was requested to launch by Belfast Coastguard tonight to reports of a person in the water at Dunseverick

Portrush All weather Lifeboat was requested to launch by Belfast Coastguard tonight to reports of a person in the water at Dunseverick.

The Lifeboat under Coxswain Johnny Weston launched at 6.50 and arrived on scene at 7.10pm. Weather conditions tonight were perfect with good visibility and a smooth sea.

Once on scene the volunteer deployed the Y boat to get closer to the casualty. Members of the public had assisted the casualty onto the rocks where the crew were able to assess if any injuries had been sustained. The Y boat crew were then able to get the casualty off the rocks and to the waiting ambulance. The casualty had sustained slight injuries to the lower leg.

Charles Grossie Deputy Launching Authority said: -

This was a great rescue for our crew and weather conditions helped with a quick efficient transfer of the casualty from the rocks to the waiting Ambulance and a great multi-agency response. This is something our crew train for and are experienced at this type of scenario. However, we would ask everyone to take extra care around the coast at this time of hot weather. Use a lifeguarded beach and always have a means of being able to dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

The crew arrived back on station at 8.20 pm.
