The alarm was raised at 12:10pm when the sailors, aboard a 24-foot yacht, contacted the Irish Coast Guard after their outboard motor failed. The RNLI All-Weather Lifeboat launched just eight minutes later, at 12:18pm, heading toward the reported location.

Upon reaching the scene, approximately two miles northeast of the Fundale Buoy, the volunteer crew assessed the situation. After consulting with the yacht’s crew, the decision was made to establish a tow line and guide the vessel safely back to shore.

The lifeboat successfully towed the yacht to the lifeboat pen in Rosslare Port, arriving at around 3:00pm without incident. Once ashore, the sailors were able to begin addressing the mechanical fault, while the RNLI crew carried out standard post-operation procedures, including washing down and refuelling the lifeboat in preparation for future callouts.

Conditions at sea were favourable, with light winds and clear visibility aiding the rescue effort.

The volunteer crew involved in the operation were Coxswain Keith Miller, Mechanic Keith Morris, Navigator Anthony Kavanagh, and crew members Paul McCormack, Aaron Kavanagh, and David McCusker.

Following the incident, Coxswain Keith Miller highlighted the importance of preparedness at sea, stressing that sailors should always carry reliable communication equipment and wear appropriate safety gear.

In case of emergency call 112/999 or use VHF Channel 16 and ask for the Coast Guard.
