Sligo Bay RNLI carries out medical evacuation from Coney Island

Sligo Bay RNLI was requested to launch by the Irish Coast Guard at 2.45pm on Friday, 4 September, to carry out a medical evacuation of a person on Coney Island.
The volunteer crew launched the station’s inshore lifeboat at 2.55pm and made their way the short distance to the island in choppy conditions.
On arrival, the lifeboat crew proceeded to the casualty’s location where they carried out a casualty care assessment.
Two additional lifeboat crew members were then brought across to the island by lifeboat to assist with moving the casualty by stretcher to the island’s pier.
The casualty was transferred aboard the lifeboat and brought back to the station at Rosses Point, where they were transferred into the care of a waiting ambulance crew. The casualty was subsequently taken to Sligo University Hospital for further treatment.
Speaking following the call-out, Sligo Bay RNLI Helm Michael Waters said: “Time is of the essence in a medical emergency and we would like to wish the casualty a speedy recovery.
“Thank you to all our volunteers who responded quickly and carried out their work with great care.”
Sligo Bay RNLI’s volunteer crew returned to station following the successful medical evacuation.
