Waterford, Sunday, 21 June 2026 – Waterford City River Rescue was tasked this afternoon by the Irish Coast Guard to assist a vessel experiencing difficulties on the River Suir.

Responding promptly to the incident, rescue crews located the vessel and successfully placed it under tow before escorting it safely to a marina in Waterford. The operation was completed without incident, ensuring the safety of those on board and preventing the situation from escalating.
Following the callout, Waterford City River Rescue thanked all agencies involved in the response, with particular appreciation extended to the Marine Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC), which coordinated the incident.
The rescue organisation also used the opportunity to remind the public of the importance of making an early call to the emergency services whenever a water-related incident occurs.
A spokesperson said: "Early notification allows the appropriate emergency services to be dispatched promptly and can make a significant difference in the outcome of an incident."
Members of the public are urged not to assume that someone else has already raised the alarm. Anyone who sees a person or vessel in difficulty on Ireland's lakes, rivers, or coastline should immediately call 999 or 112 and ask for the Irish Coast Guard, who will coordinate and deploy the necessary emergency response resources.
Waterford City River Rescue remains committed to safeguarding those using the region's waterways and encourages all water users to prioritise safety and preparedness while on the water.
