Wexford RNLI volunteer crew member Edel Ennis has successfully achieved full crew status, marking a significant milestone in her training and development as a member of the station's operational lifeboat team.

To reach full crew status, all RNLI volunteers must complete the organisation's rigorous Operational Competency Framework (OCF), which ensures crew members are fully prepared to respond safely and effectively to emergencies at sea. Edel's latest assessment was her third successful competency assessment and the most demanding to date.
The assessment required her to demonstrate proficiency across a wide range of operational skills, including helming, navigation, helicopter operations, hydrology and dynamic risk assessment.
Achieving full crew status means Edel is now recognised as competent to undertake a broader range of operational duties during lifeboat launches, strengthening Wexford RNLI's lifesaving capability.
The achievement follows months of dedicated training, commitment and hard work, balancing regular exercises with volunteering and personal commitments.
Speaking after completing the assessment, Edel said:
"I'm delighted to have passed this assessment. It's been a challenging but incredibly rewarding journey, and I couldn't have done it without the support and encouragement of the rest of the crew. I'm looking forward to continuing my training, gaining more experience and playing an even bigger role in helping those who need us."
The RNLI depends on volunteers who dedicate their time to ongoing training so they are ready to respond whenever the pager sounds. Continuous assessment ensures crews maintain the knowledge, practical skills and confidence required to save lives at sea.
