Wicklow RNLI Assists Injured Casualty at Wicklow Harbour

Wicklow RNLI volunteers launched their inshore lifeboat on Tuesday, 25 August, to assist with the transfer of an injured casualty at Wicklow Harbour.
Volunteer pagers sounded at 4.10pm following a request from the Coast Guard for assistance in transferring a young man who had been injured on a floating pontoon used by swimmers to access the water in the harbour.
The casualty was initially tended to by lifeguards on duty, who then called for assistance with his transfer.
The Wicklow RNLI inshore lifeboat was launched shortly before 4.20pm under the command of Helm Andrew Carlin, accompanied by two volunteer crew members. With calm seas and light winds, the lifeboat arrived on scene just a minute after launching.
The casualty was carefully transferred onto the inshore lifeboat and brought safely back to the lifeboat station, where an ambulance crew was waiting to provide further medical treatment.
Speaking following the callout, Helm Andrew Carlin said: “We were pleased to be able to assist the casualty, and we hope that they recover quickly from their injury.
“I’d like to remind people if they see anyone in difficulty in the water to please call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coast Guard.”
Wicklow RNLI’s volunteer crew were stood down once the casualty had been safely transferred into the care of the ambulance crew.
