The lifeboat was launched at approximately 12:00 following a call to the Coast Guard reporting that three kayakers were experiencing difficulty in the water.

The lifeboat proceeded to the scene and made contact with the kayakers. On arrival, the crew established that all three were safe and well and were not in any difficulty.

The lifeboat, under the helm of Joe O’Connor, with crew members Noel Joyce, Eddie Hennessy and Jason Innes, returned to Youghal lifeboat station following the call-out. The lifeboat was subsequently washed down, refuelled and made ready for its next service.

Speaking after the call-out, Youghal RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager John Hearne said:

“A good outcome shout, even though it turned out that the kayakers were not in trouble. The caller did exactly the right thing by calling the Coast Guard on 112. It is always better to raise the alarm if you are concerned about someone’s safety at sea.”

Youghal RNLI would remind members of the public that if they see someone in difficulty or are concerned for the safety of anyone at sea or on the water, they should immediately contact the Coast Guard by calling 112 or 999 and asking for the Coast Guard.
