Aran Islands RNLI marks 50th call out of the year with Double Medical Evacuation in one day

On Saturday 23 August, the volunteer crew at Aran Islands lifeboat station answered the 50th call out of the year, which was the second call out on that day.

The first call of the day came in at 3:30pm following a request from the Coast Guard to transfer a patient off Inis Meáin.


Once the lifeboat arrived in Inis Meáin, the crew transferred the patient onboard. The lifeboat departed Inis Meáin and safely transferred the patient to Ros a Mhíl and into the care of an awaiting ambulance crew.


The next call came in a few hours later at 8:52pm, when the crew were requested to launch for a medical evacuation from Inis Mór.


The crew received handover from the local doctor before departing Inis Mór. The patient was safely transferred to Ros a Mhíl and into the care of an awaiting ambulance crew.


The crew on call were: Declan Brannigan - Coxswain, Alan O' Flynn - Mechanic, Steve Dirrane, Daniel O'Connell, Leah Sharkey, Billy Gillan, Mike Faherty, Brian Ó Cualáin
