The volunteer search and rescue crew was tasked at 1:45pm following reports of a vessel experiencing mechanical difficulties and requiring assistance. The rescue boat launched promptly, located the casualty vessel, and safely established a tow back to Russellstown Bay.

All persons on board the disabled vessel were reported to be safe and well, and no medical assistance was required. Following the successful conclusion of the incident, the rescue boat and crew returned to base, where the vessel was refuelled, checked, and made ready for its next emergency call.

The incident serves as a timely reminder of the importance of preparing properly before heading onto the water. Boaters are advised to ensure their vessel and engine are in good working order, carry the appropriate safety equipment, wear a suitable lifejacket at all times, and inform someone ashore of their planned route and expected return time.

Anyone who witnesses a person or vessel in distress on the water should immediately dial 999 or 112, ask for the Coast Guard, and request Blessington Rescue Boat if operating on Blessington Lakes.

Blessington Rescue Boat thanked its volunteer crew for their swift and professional response, as well as the Coast Guard for its assistance in coordinating the incident.
