Multi-agency emergency response launched following incident on River Suir

Emergency services responded to an incident on the River Suir in Waterford last night following reports that a person had entered the water.
The Irish Coast Guard coordinated the response, tasking Waterford City River Rescue and Rescue 117, with Waterford City Fire Service, An Garda Síochána and the National Ambulance Service also attending the incident.
On arrival at the scene, emergency service personnel commenced a coordinated response to locate and assist the person in difficulty.
The casualty was successfully rescued from the water by Waterford City Fire Service and brought to safety.
During the incident, a member of the public had also entered the water in an attempt to assist the casualty. The individual was subsequently assisted and brought safely ashore by the crew of Waterford City River Rescue.
Waterford City River Rescue acknowledged the actions of the member of the public and thanked those who raised the alarm promptly by contacting the emergency services on 999/112.
The incident concluded successfully following a multi-agency response involving the Irish Coast Guard, Waterford City River Rescue, Waterford City Fire Service, Rescue 117, An Garda Síochána and the National Ambulance Service.
The incident is also a reminder of the importance of raising the alarm immediately when someone is seen in difficulty on or near the water.
In a coastal or inland water emergency, dial 999 or 112 and ask for the Coast Guard. Give the emergency operator as much information as possible about the location and nature of the incident and never assume somebody else has already made the call.
An early call to the emergency services allows the Irish Coast Guard to coordinate and task the appropriate rescue resources without delay.
