Crosshaven Coast Guard volunteers were tasked on Saturday morning (9 May), following the activation of their pagers by MRSC Valentia at 11.25am to assist a 15-metre yacht located approximately two nautical miles south of Roche’s Point with two persons onboard.

The volunteer crew quickly responded and made their way to the casualty vessel, where two members of Crosshaven Coast Guard were transferred onboard to assess the situation and provide assistance to those onboard. Following an assessment, the Coast Guard crew took over the helm of the yacht and safely navigated the vessel back to the Royal Cork Yacht Club under escort from the Crosshaven Coast Guard boat.

With additional support from shore crew members, the yacht was brought safely alongside the marina in Crosshaven. Both persons onboard and the vessel were reported safe and well following the operation.

The Irish Coast Guard is reminding the public that if assistance is required, or if there is concern that assistance may be needed, to immediately dial 112 or 999, or make contact via VHF Channel 16 and ask for the Irish Coast Guard - a call that could help save a life.
