Crosshaven RNLI Assists Family After Boat Suffers Engine Failure In Cork Harbour

Crosshaven RNLI launched on Sunday evening to assist four people after their 19-foot pleasure craft developed engine trouble between Cobh and Aghada.
The volunteer lifeboat crew was requested to launch following a call from the Irish Coast Guard after the skipper of the vessel reported engine failure. The skipper had anchored the boat to prevent it from drifting and alerted the Coast Guard to his situation.
The lifeboat, with crew members David Venner, Kline Pennefather, Derek Moynan and Alex Barry on board, made its way to the casualty vessel. On arrival, the crew carried out an assessment before taking the boat under tow.
The vessel was safely towed to the slipway at Aghada, where the lifeboat crew assisted the two adults and two children with the safe retrieval of their boat.
Speaking following the callout, Crosshaven RNLI crew member Kline Pennefather said:
"This was a textbook call made easier by an experienced skipper who made all the right decisions. By anchoring to prevent drift and contacting the Coast Guard promptly, he ensured everyone remained safe while help was on the way."
The lifeboat returned to station at 9.45pm and was made ready for service.
The RNLI reminds all boat users to ensure their vessel is well maintained before heading afloat, carry suitable communications equipment, and always wear an appropriate lifejacket. In the event of difficulty on the water, call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coast Guard as early as possible.
