Crosshaven RNLI assists motor boat off Roches Point

Crosshaven RNLI was called into action on Sunday afternoon following a machinery failure aboard a 21-foot Arvor motor boat off Roches Point.
At 3.20pm, Valentia Coast Guard tasked the Crosshaven lifeboat volunteers to assist the casualty, which had two people on board and was approximately half a mile south-east of Roches Point.
The lifeboat was soon underway, with Helm James Fegan in command and Conor Barry, Darren O’Keefe and Kline Pennefather on board.
On arrival, the crew found that the disabled motor boat was in danger of being swept towards the shoreline. A tow was established and the casualty was safely brought to the DOD Marina in Crosshaven.
Following the successful rescue operation, the lifeboat was washed down and refuelled before being declared ready for service once more at 5.15pm.
The shore crew supporting the call-out were Michael McCann, Moira Kavanagh, Griff Kelleher, Michael Livingstone, Jennifer Grey, David Venner and Alan Venner.
Crosshaven RNLI’s volunteers continue to provide a vital emergency service to those using the waters around Cork Harbour and the surrounding coastline.
