Crosshaven RNLI lifeboat crew launched on Wednesday evening, 13 May, following reports of a vessel adrift in the shipping channel near Passage West.

Shortly after 6pm, Valentia Coast Guard requested the launch of the Crosshaven lifeboat to assist a 25-foot vessel that had broken adrift in the busy channel area.
The volunteer crew of Ian Venner, Conor Barry, Alex Barry and Kline Pennefather launched promptly and made the 15-minute journey to the scene.
On arrival, the lifeboat crew located the vessel almost self-moored, lying out of the wind and held in a back eddy, which prevented it from drifting further into the shipping lane.
As the crew assessed the situation and prepared to secure the vessel, the owner arrived on scene by boat and resumed control of his craft. With the situation safely resolved, the Crosshaven RNLI crew stood down and returned to station.
Providing shore support during the callout were Michael McCann, Michael Livingstone, Darryl Hughes, Griff Kelleher, David Venner and Warren Forbes. The launch authority for the operation was James Cotter.
In the event of an emergency at sea or along the coast, dial 999 or 112 and ask for the Coast Guard.
