CROSSHAVEN, Co Cork - Crosshaven RNLI was tasked on Friday evening following reports that a 14-year-old had entered the water near the Deepwater Quay in Cobh, Co. Cork.

The alarm was raised at approximately 7pm, prompting an immediate response from the volunteer lifeboat crew. Crew members James Fegan, Conor Barry, Alex Barry and Ian Venner launched the lifeboat and proceeded at best speed towards the reported incident location.
As the lifeboat made its way through Cork Harbour and reached a position west of Spike Island, the crew received an update from the Coast Guard confirming that the casualty had been safely recovered from the water and was no longer in danger.
With the situation resolved, the lifeboat was stood down and returned to station without further incident.
Supporting the operation ashore were shore crew members Alan Venner, Sandra Farrell, Roy Sexton, Dave Venner and Warren Forbes. The launch was authorised by Launch Authority Jon McClean.
Crosshaven RNLI's swift response highlights the readiness of its volunteer crews to respond at any time to emergencies throughout Cork Harbour and the surrounding coastline.
As temperatures rise and more people enjoy time around the water, the RNLI is reminding the public to take extra care near quays, harbours and coastal areas. If you see someone in difficulty in the water, call 999 or 112 immediately and ask for the Coast Guard. Avoid entering the water yourself; if possible, use a throw line or flotation aid and keep visual contact with the casualty until emergency services arrive.
