Enniskillen RNLI assists speed boat with engine failure on Lower Lough Erne

Enniskillen RNLI came to the aid of four people on board a speed boat that got into difficulty on Lower Lough Erne on Saturday afternoon (25 July).
The volunteer crew launched the charity's inshore lifeboat, John and Jean Lewis, at 3.45pm following a request from Belfast Coastguard after a report that a speed boat with four people onboard had suffered engine failure and was drifting.
Weather conditions at the time were favourable, with light westerly winds of Force 2 and good visibility.
The lifeboat crew quickly located the casualty vessel near Rossclare. After coming alongside, the volunteers carried out an assessment and confirmed that all four people onboard were safe and well.
As the vessel was unable to make way under its own power and was drifting, the decision was made to establish a tow. The lifeboat crew then safely towed the speed boat to shore.
Speaking following the call out, Enniskillen RNLI Helm Andy Wilson said:
"We would encourage anyone planning a trip or using our waterways to always ensure you have the correct equipment, to wear the appropriate gear and have a mechanism for calling for assistance if needed, such as a VHF radio or mobile phone. Should you get into difficulty, call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard."
The RNLI reminds everyone heading out on the water to check their vessel is in good working order before setting off, carry suitable means of communication and always let someone know their plans before they leave shore.
