POOLE, Dorset - Four crew members from Fenit RNLI have completed specialist Mechanics Pre-Commissioning Training in Poole, England, as preparations continue for the station's transition to its new Shannon class all-weather lifeboat later this summer.

Deputy Mechanic Terry Sheehy, Trainee Deputy Mechanic Lee Sugrue, Senior Station Technician Kevin Honeyman, and Trainee Deputy Mechanic Shane Mulcair travelled to the RNLI College in Poole this week to undertake the intensive training programme.
The Shannon class is the most advanced all-weather lifeboat in the RNLI fleet and represents a significant technological step forward for stations transitioning to the vessel. During the course, the Fenit crew received hands-on instruction in the operation and maintenance of the lifeboat's state-of-the-art Hamilton waterjet propulsion system and powerful Scania engines.
The training forms a vital part of the station's ongoing preparations, ensuring that Fenit's mechanical team is fully equipped with the knowledge and skills required to support the new lifeboat when it enters operational service.
The mechanics' course is the latest stage in a comprehensive training programme being undertaken by Fenit RNLI volunteers ahead of the Shannon's arrival. Crew members across a range of operational roles are currently completing specialist training to familiarise themselves with the capabilities and systems of the new vessel.
Earlier this year, four Fenit RNLI coxswains undertook advanced training as part of the station's wider transition programme, highlighting the significant commitment being made to ensure all crew are fully prepared for the introduction of the new lifeboat.
The Shannon class lifeboat is designed to deliver enhanced performance, manoeuvrability and crew safety, enabling RNLI volunteers to respond effectively to emergencies in some of the most challenging maritime conditions.
Everyone at Fenit RNLI wishes Terry, Lee, Kevin and Shane every success as they continue their training and looks forward to welcoming the station's brand-new Shannon class lifeboat in the coming months.
