Four coxswains from Fenit RNLI have completed intensive specialist training at the RNLI College in Dorset as the station prepares for the arrival of its new Shannon class all-weather lifeboat later this summer.

The five-day course forms part of the final operational preparations ahead of the delivery of the state-of-the-art vessel, which will significantly enhance the station’s lifesaving capability along the Kerry coastline.
Four of the station’s six coxswains travelled to the RNLI College to undertake the advanced training programme, designed to ensure crews are fully prepared to operate the Shannon class lifeboat safely and effectively in demanding maritime conditions.
The Shannon class, regarded as one of the most advanced all-weather lifeboats in the RNLI fleet, is capable of speeds of up to 25 knots and is designed to improve response times and operational performance in severe sea states.
For the volunteer crew members, the training also represented a considerable personal commitment. Each coxswain gave up personal time and spent time away from work and family responsibilities in order to complete the programme and continue serving the local community.
Fenit RNLI said the dedication and professionalism shown by the coxswains reflects the commitment of volunteers across the lifesaving service.
The station is expected to officially welcome the new Shannon class lifeboat later this summer, marking a significant milestone in the continued development of rescue operations in the region.
