On Monday, 27 October, at 4 pm, the Killaloe Coast Guard unit was dispatched to assist a vessel drifting south of Killaloe. The situation arose when the skipper of the vessel, attempting to recover the boat from the water at the Ballina slipway, lost his footing and fell overboard.

After falling overboard, the skipper managed to exit the water unscathed at the Ballina slipway. Despite his safe exit, the unmanned vessel drifted into a strong current, being carried downriver towards Parteen Weir.
Upon receiving the call for assistance, a boat crew was immediately launched from the Coast Guard base at Pierhead Killaloe. Simultaneously, a shore team was dispatched to the Ballina slipway to provide support.
The drifting vessel was eventually located south of the new Killaloe bridge. The Coast Guard successfully took the vessel under tow and returned it to the Ballina jetty. The shore team was present to assist with the safe mooring of the vessel upon its return.
Remember if you see someone in difficulty please call 112/999 and ask for Coast Guard.
