On the afternoon of Friday, January 23, the Killaloe Coast Guard unit responded to a call from the Marine Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Valentia. The request was to assist a 24-foot cruiser experiencing engine trouble on the Clare shore of Lough Derg, specifically south of Two Mile Gate.

The Coast Guard's RIB, with four skilled crew members, promptly launched from Pier Head Killaloe. They successfully located the distressed vessel, which was adrift between Two Mile Gate and Ballyvally.
After a crew member was safely transferred aboard the cruiser, an assessment of the situation was conducted. It was determined that the most effective course of action was to secure a tow line and guide the vessel into deeper waters. The individual aboard the cruiser was found to be safe, well, and adequately equipped with a life jacket.
Once secured, the vessel was towed back to Killaloe. Upon arrival, a shore team was ready to assist in the safe mooring of the vessel.
By 3:50 p.m., the Coast Guard crew returned to base, and all equipment was prepared for any future callouts
Remember if you see someone in difficulty please call 112/999 and ask for Coast Guard.
