Killaloe Coast Guard unit tasked to assist thirty one foot cruiser with 2 persons on board

Killaloe Coast Guard unit launched on Wednesday afternoon, (20 August), to assist a 31-foot cruiser with engine difficulty south of Scilly Island on Lough Derg.

Unit members were alerted at 12:10pm following a request from the Irish Coast Guard. A crew launched from Pier Head Killaloe and were on scene within 7 minutes of launching.
The vessel, a 31-foot cruiser with two people on board, had started to experience engine difficulties south of Scilly Island, was drifting in a north-eastern wind force 2-3.
Once alongside a Coast Guard crew member was transferred on board the causality vessel and a tow line was set up.
The vessel was taken on tow back to Killaloe where a shore team were on hand to assist in the safe mooring of the vessel. Both people on board were safe and well.
At 1:45pm crew members reurned to base and stood down.
