At 11:29 am on Wednesday 8 April, Portrush RNLI’s Inshore Lifeboat was requested to launch by the Coastguard to reports of a yacht in difficulty 8 metres off the Skerries, near Portrush Harbour.

The vessel with one person on board had developed engine trouble on the way to Portrush Harbour. Weather conditions were ideal with a light wind, clear skies and good visibility.
The four-crew arrived on scene at 11.50 am, and along with a local fisherman towed the vessel to safety at Portrush.
Beni McAllister Lifeboat Operations Manager said: -
‘A breakdown like this can happen to anyone especially as the season is starting and boats are starting to get back into the water. Just make sure to check everything before you set off, wear a lifejacket, and always have a means of calling for assistance. Better to be safe than sorry’
