Portrush Inshore Lifeboat The Ken Blair was launched on Thursday evening (30 April) at 7:04pm following multiple 999 calls reporting a kayaker in difficulty near the Herring Pond in Portstewart.

Weather conditions at the time were favourable, with good visibility, light cloud, and a gentle south-easterly wind. The lifeboat launched at 7:15pm and reached the scene just eight minutes later.
Upon arrival, the volunteer crew quickly assessed the situation and determined that the casualty required medical attention. The kayaker was safely brought ashore at Portstewart Harbour, where they were handed over to the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS).
The lifeboat crew returned to station at 8:20pm after successfully completing the rescue.
The volunteer crew involved in the callout were Roo McCrudden, Ishy McIntyre, and Dan Thorne.
In an emergency, dial 999 or 112 and ask for the coastguard.
