The volunteer crew Dún Laoghaire RNLI were called into action for the second time on Saturday evening, 18 April, when the inshore lifeboat Joval launched at 9:07pm.

The volunteer crew responded to reports of three adults aboard a 20-foot vessel experiencing engine failure in Scotsman’s Bay. Upon reaching the scene, the situation had improved—the boat had managed to regain engine power. As a precaution, the lifeboat escorted the vessel safely back to Dún Laoghaire Marina, ensuring all on board returned without incident.
Following the call-out, the lifeboat returned to station where it was cleaned, refuelled, and prepared for its next service.
The crew for the rescue included helm Alan Keville, alongside Lorcán Kane and Ciara Doran. Notably, both Kane and Doran had already been involved in an earlier emergency that day, responding to a boat fire in Dublin Bay.
Speaking after the incident, Alan Keville praised the actions of the boat’s occupants and offered a reminder to the public: anyone in difficulty on the water should use VHF channel 16 or call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coast Guard. He highlighted that the powerboat crew had done the right thing, wearing lifejackets, calling for help promptly, and remaining calm until assistance arrived.
