The volunteer crew at Sligo Bay lifeboat station were tasked by the Coast Guard on Saturday evening (26 July), to go to the aid of a boat that was experiencing engine failure with six people on board.

The volunteer crew launched their Atlantic 85 class inshore lifeboat at 7:17pm and quickly headed to the location of the vessel.
The casualty boat with six people on board, all wearing lifejackets, had experienced engine failure and were drifting up towards Sligo Town with the incoming tide. Thankfully the owner did not hesitate to call 999/112 and ask for the Coast Guard.
Once on scene the lifeboat crew carried out an assessment and decided to tow the casualty boat back to pier beside the Lifeboat station.
After successfully recovering their boat, the owner came into the station to thank all the crew for their quick assistance and service.
Always remember call 999/112 and ask for the Coast Guard if you are in trouble on the water or you see someone in trouble. Every second counts.
