Waterford, 21 June 2026 - Waterford City River Rescue (WCRR) was tasked for the second time on Sunday by the Irish Coast Guard to respond to a vessel and persons reported to be in difficulty on the River Suir.

Following the alert, WCRR crews deployed and successfully assisted the vessel, which had become a hazard to navigation. Rescue personnel safely relocated the vessel to a marina in Waterford, removing the risk to other river users and ensuring the safety of those on board.
The incident was coordinated by the Marine Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC), with Waterford City River Rescue expressing its appreciation to all agencies and personnel involved in the response.
A spokesperson for WCRR highlighted the importance of early emergency calls when water-related incidents occur.
"We would like to reiterate the absolute importance of making an early call to the Emergency Services for water incidents so that the relevant services can be dispatched promptly."
The organisation is also reminding members of the public not to assume that someone else has contacted the emergency services if they witness an incident on the water.
Anyone who sees a person or vessel in difficulty on Ireland's lakes, rivers, or coastline is urged to call 999 or 112 immediately and ask for the Irish Coast Guard, who will coordinate and dispatch the appropriate rescue resources to the scene.
No injuries were reported during the incident.
