The volunteer crew at Arklow lifeboat station were requested to launch just before midday (Monday 23 June) to go to the assistance of a 10-meter fishing vessel, which had become disabled approximately 7 nautical miles southeast of Arklow Harbour.

20 minutes after receiving the distress call, the Arklow Lifeboat arrived on scene to find the stricken vessel adrift without propulsion in a fresh force 5 westerly breeze.

The casualty vessel was taken under tow to the safety of Arklow harbour, arriving at 15:15.

The crew for the call were Eddie Mc Elheron (Coxswain), James Russell (Mechanic) Liam O’Neill (Navigator), Roger Tyrell, Michael Mordant and Dave Molloy, with Alan Meehan acting as Launching Authority.

Following the call Mark Corcoran, Lifeboat Press Officer said, “this call out came just after our official naming ceremony and reminds us all that this is what our donor Roy Holloway left a legacy to the RNLI for , when he got that little RNLI Christmas card all those years ago, his donation ensures our volunteers go to sea in the best equipment the institution can provide”
